A Level is a school-leaving certification provided by the United Kingdom and the British Crown. It is a subject-based diploma qualification conferred to students who complete pre-university or secondary education. The A Level Certification was first introduced in Wales and England to substitute the Higher School Certificate. The model turned out to be a success and is today adopted by many countries across the globe like Kenya, Malaysia, Uganda, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, and India.
A Level Certification is divided into two modules, the AS and A2 Level. Below is a brief on both the modules for better understanding:-
AS Level: The AS level is commonly known as an AS, and accounts for 50% of the total marks for A Level certification. It can also be treated as an independent qualification and holds significance.
A2 Level: Unlike AS Level, A2 Level cannot be treated as an independent qualification and has no significance of its own. It is a further accomplishment to the AS Level and accounts for the second 50% of marks towards the A Level certification. Also, an AS is less rigorous academically, and only those students who take their studies to the A2 Level are able to procure an A* grade.
